Paintbrushes come with two basic types of head:
1. Bristle – It is called bristle when the material is a natural hair of any sort of animal.
2. Filament – It is called filament when it is an artificial material and synthetic.
Natural bristles are made from animal hair, such as hog or ox. They are extremely soft and good on wall. Natural-bristle brushes are best for applying oil-based alkyd paints. Since they are natural hair, the bristles are naturally tipped and flagged for a higher paint pickup. But if used in water based paints they become highly flexible making them to loose their bend recovery.
100% pure bristle paint brushes are the top notch quality paint brushes. But they are affordable only for professional painters due to it’s premium quality and high price. So it is common in the industry to also have a blend of both Natural bristle and PET filament Paint brush in the product line. They are economical in price point of view and gives a very decent amount of output.
Synthetic bristles are often made from nylon, polyester, or a combination of both., and synthetic-bristle brushes are recommended for water-based latex paints. Dupont brush is highest in standards of synthetic bristle brush. They have a longer life than the Bristle brushes. Usually the life is 5 times more than them. They are very apt for both Interior and exterior usage.
Dupont filaments are dipped and flagged mechanically for a better paint pick up and higher smoothness. This prolongs the life of the paint brush and still gives the utility of bristle brushes.
So these are the basic of paint brush yet very important to do the job!
